ESTCO - Embed Simulation Training Course

Covering armed conflict is becoming increasingly difficult, and in some places impossible, without being embedded within the military. A close working relationship is essential to enabling the best possible access to cover the story or reach those who need aid most. Conflict reporting, and in particular, war reporting requires a special set of skills, skills which are hard to learn unless in the line of fire.
Blue Dot has responded to this need and offers journalists the opportunity to get this essential training and experience whilst embedded with the Royal Marines on exercise with its Embed Simulation Training Courses - ESTCO.
Is it for you
This opportunity is aimed at media workers who, as per the MoD Green Book, have already completed a Hostile Environment and First Aid Course (HEFAC) and wish to gain experience working with the military in preparation for future assignments.
The Embed
This intense training is undertaken over 48hrs spread across three days, embedded with the Royal Marines working as a journalist attached to a troop. It is a unique opportunity to combine your journalistic skills with your skills learnt on your HEFAC in a controlled hostile environment. It is also an opportunity to forge working relationships with troops that you could be working alongside in your future assignments as well as experiencing working with little or no sleep in a high pressure combat environment.

To accelerate your hostile environment experience and skill level.
To help you gain the experience and skills required for combat reporting in a controlled environment .
To help you gain a practical working knowledge of operating in hostile environments and in working alongside the military and other Non Government Organisations.
Objectives
To provide confirmation of tactical skills learnt on the HEFAC.
To provide confirmation of journalistic skills in a high pressure environment.
To establish working relationships with the military.
Location
The embed exercises take place on military training locations throughout the UK.
